Most of them are completely free to use, and the two that aren\u2019t are well worth the investment! The important thing is they\u2019re all incredibly useful for day-to-day copy and content writing tasks, and I\u2019m here to explain how.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.semrush.com\/lp\/seo-writing-assistant-3\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Semrush Writing Assistant<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In a nutshell:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Powered by Semrush \u2013 the world\u2019s leading SEO platform and tools suite \u2013 the Semrush Writing Assistant is pretty much a one-stop-shop for reviewing your long-form website content \u2013 be it a blog, a service page or another designated landing page.<\/p>\n<p>Semrush Writing Assistant plugs into Google Docs and WordPress, measuring your written content against 4 categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SEO (including keyword usage, keyword density and semantic term suggestions)<\/li>\n<li>Originality<\/li>\n<li>Readability<\/li>\n<li>Tone of voice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Great for: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Scoring SEO content overall<\/li>\n<li>Identifying areas of writing that could be improved<\/li>\n<li>Making sure you\u2019ve used keywords effectively<\/li>\n<li>Checking uniqueness of copy<\/li>\n<li>Keeping your tone consistent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>Dependant on which plan you choose<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.semrush.com\/lp\/topic-research\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Semrush Topic Research<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In a nutshell:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If struggling to come up with ideas for content sounds familiar, you\u2019ll love the Semrush Topic Research tool. Explore trending topics and subtopics, relevant competitor content and helpful data including topic search volume, topic difficulty and related questions.<\/p>\n<p>All you have to do is give the software any word or phrase and watch it return hundreds of topics and ideas for engaging content.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identifying hot, trending topics<\/li>\n<li>Getting inspired<\/li>\n<li>Researching engaging content that resonates<\/li>\n<li>Uncovering topic-related questions<\/li>\n<li>Discovering competitor content that ranks well<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>Dependant on which plan you choose<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grammarly.com\/desktop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Grammarly for Desktop<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In a nutshell:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I simply can\u2019t recommend Grammarly highly enough; it\u2019s a Godsend. This all-in-one writing assistant checks your grammar, punctuation, and spelling as you write. Plus, it works in your browser and across desktop apps, emails, and documents, making it your omnipresent guardian angel when it comes to writing content.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keeping on top of your spelling, punctuation, and grammar<\/li>\n<li>Alerting you of errors in software with no built-in checker (such as Microsoft Excel)<\/li>\n<li>Analysing the consistency of your tone<\/li>\n<li>Use across an array of programmes, apps, browsers, documents and more<\/li>\n<li>Peace of mind<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>Free!<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.powerthesaurus.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Power Thesaurus<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>I know that a thesaurus seems like an obvious tool to mention, but this particular thesaurus is my favourite. As well as generating synonyms and antonyms, it also gives you the option to generate related phrases, idioms and even rhymes \u2013 which is really handy when you\u2019re having one of those days that\u2019s marred by writer\u2019s block.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In a nutshell:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remembering a word or phrase you currently can\u2019t remember<\/li>\n<li>Helping you create eloquent content<\/li>\n<li>Building your vocabulary<\/li>\n<li>Unearthing interesting words and phrases<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>Free!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.phrases.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Phrase Finder<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In a nutshell:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This website is another great tool for inspiring copy ideas \u2013 particularly when you\u2019re trying to be witty or punny. Simply give Phrase Finder a word and it will throw back a bunch of idioms, phrases and proverbs that relate. This tool is great for stimulating ideas for things like email and ad copy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Finding relevant, topic-related phrases<\/li>\n<li>Inspiring creativity<\/li>\n<li>Having a little giggle here and there<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>Free!<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/admockups.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Ad Mockups<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In a nutshell:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regardless of which platform hosts them, there are a lot of components to digital ads, and sometimes it can be hard to accurately envision an ad in its entirety well enough to write copy for it.<\/p>\n<p>If this sounds familiar, give Ad Mockups a try. This tool lets you create ad mockups on the fly with the ability to customise the brand name and logo, supporting imagery or carousels, and the post copy itself. You can even mock up ads for specific platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visualising your ads<\/li>\n<li>Seeing your copy in-situ<\/li>\n<li>Testing copy alongside images or videos<\/li>\n<li>Making sure copy matches the feel of the brand<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>Free!<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/hemingwayapp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Hemingway Copy Editor<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In a nutshell:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This tool is a bit like a spell-checker, but for style and formatting. Hemingway Editor gives you a readability grade for your copy, points out sentences that are too complex, suggests ways to optimise your content, and highlights any instances of passive tone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Checking the reading grade of your writing<\/li>\n<li>Highlighting complicated sentences<\/li>\n<li>Suggesting better words<\/li>\n<li>Identifying areas of passive tone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/emojifinder.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Emoji Finder<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In a nutshell:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a copywriter, then I wouldn\u2019t mind betting that you frequently need to source emojis to support your social or email copy. Back in the day, I would just log in to Facebook and start a new post to access the emojis (only occasionally accidentally posting it). Nowadays, I use emoji finder, which basically does what it says on the tin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Having a database of emojis on hand<\/li>\n<li>Easily searching through the sheer mass of emojis in existence<\/li>\n<li>Sourcing emojis without risking an accidental in-platform post<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/ritetag.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>RiteTag<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In a nutshell:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>RiteTag will give you hashtag suggestions to support your social content based on real-time hashtag engagement levels across social media platforms. A must-have for Instagram and Twitter marketing, specifically.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Finding relevant hashtags<\/li>\n<li>Sourcing existing hashtags<\/li>\n<li>Measuring hashtag engagement levels in real-time<\/li>\n<li>Discovering hashtags by platform<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>Free!<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/answerthepublic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Answer The Public<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In a nutshell:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Answer The Public is a keyword tool which effectively scrapes Google\u2019s autocomplete and autosuggest entries to give you a bunch of long-tail, question-based keywords to help fuel your content efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Simply type in your keyword and get loads of helpful, pleasingly displayed data to give you a veritable goldmine of content inspiration and ideas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing search insights<\/li>\n<li>Researching customer needs and wants<\/li>\n<li>Sourcing relevant FAQ content<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>Free!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What about AI copywriting tools?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cBut what about all the AI copywriting tools!?\u201d I hear you ask. Well, I left them out on purpose. If you\u2019re a copywriter by trade, then presumably you can get along without such software.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not saying AI writing tools don\u2019t have their place, just that their place is not here in this article.
